It's been over a year since I finish piecing my Tula Pink City Sampler quilt. I mostly made it whilst pregnant, and I named the blocks after lots of special places, people and events, as well as the milestones of pregnancy, and I would love to have these memories finally on my bed.
What has stopped me is mostly fear of screwing it up. I'm not Angela Walters and I'll never quilt as well as that, but what I've come to realise is that the most important thing is to do the best I can right now. That way I can enjoy the quilt as a finished object.
There will definitely be plenty of sampler quilts in my future, and what I learn quilting this, I can apply to those finishes and be better with each quilt. This quilt is special, but it's not just about the finished item, it's about the journey to get there. I need to remember this more often.
So when I unburied it from the bag it had been packed it, I still hadn't really decided how to quilt it. I set my machine up and just started. And it turned out I fancied pebble quilting. So I've done lots of pebbles in just over a quarter of the sashing. 7 bobbins worth of pebbles.
What I was sure about, was that I wanted dense quilting, so the blocks need to be quilted too. And to contrast the pebbles, I think there will be a lot of "straight" matchstick quilting within the blocks. So far, I've made a start on the blocks, but haven't got too far.
I'm enjoying the process, enjoying the journey, looking forward to snuggling under it and already planning my next sampler quilt!
