But I pulled it out of the bag and I now have four finished place mats ready to send to my partner. And if she doesn't like them, that's fine - I'll keep them right here :)
It doesn't all quite line up, but I'm not far off.
Due to some fairly appalling mathematics on my part, I have some bits of fabric left over, so I'm hoping to put together some coasters before I send the package off next week.
I used heat resistant wadding for the place place mats - it's fully washable and you use it exactly like regular wadding, but it rustles a bit. Hopefully after a couple of washes, that will stop.

Funny. "Fairly appalling mathematics." That's me.
These are so awesome, I just love them! You have gone above and beyond for your swap!
I love the idea of making place mats that look like a quilt when placed together, but make a nice separate setting as well!
I love this! What a fantastic idea for placemats! I bet your partner will be thrilled with them!
Your placemats are too cute! I sometimes wonder if I would have ever taken up quilting at all if I'd properly estimated the amount of math and ironing involved.
These will be awesome placemats and can't wait to see the coasters...
These are great!
