Finish Along Q2 [wrap up]

When I started this quarter my Finish Along list was somewhat lengthy... but I have a fair few finishes, so I'm pretty pleased - even though I came no where near completing the lot! I was hoping to sneak another finish in under the wire, but I'd rather spend some time on getting it right, than rushing it, so that will make it on to the next list (which promises to be my most enormous yet). I'm going to link up this review post for my first finish of the quarter. The original ta-dah post for my Arabella Hexagon Quilt can be found here , but I'll share a couple of pictures here too. This was my own design (and will hopefully be a pattern soon) and was made for a little girl called Arabella. But naturally Mia helped model it! This was only my second attempt at spiral quilting and although it's not perfect, I love the texture it gives the quilt. after washing The Arabella Hexagon Quilt was just the first of my finishes! I finished my Thread Along Quilt -...

May [review]

I can't believe it's 1st of June already. May was so busy that I'm looking forward to a few quiet weeks in June (before it gets busy again at the end of the month). I finished four quilts! Arabella Hexagon Quilt Thread Along Quilt Neon Stained Three Peaks I started a lap quilt and a mini quilt and pieced the quilt from the bee blocks I received Lap quilt for my Great Aunt ready to quilt and applique Mini Medallion All of my bee blocks I made a scrappy camera case for my Mum This month, unlike last month, I managed to get some sampler blocks done , though none for my Dear Jane quilt. But it did include a Lucky Star block And last thing yesterday, just before my daughter's final assault on Mount Cry, I finished my two bee blocks for this month! I surprised myself by really enjoying piecing these wonky stars. As for Mia, she was christened last weekend and has learned how to laugh! Not bad for a month. I find t...

Blogger's Quilt Festival [Thread Along Quilt]

Hello and welcome! If you've headed over from the Blogger's Quilt Festival then it's great to see you here. I'm a brand new Mum, Mia is just 11 weeks old, and I sew to keep me sane. I've been obsessed by patchwork and quilting for the last few years - if you'd like to see some of my finishes, then there are links at the top of the page for 2012, 2013 and 2014 so far! The first quilt I'm entering this time round is one that I finished just last night: my Thread Along quilt. I'm entering this in the original design category. The quilt is about 46" x 46" and was planned to be a quilt along over the course of 2013. However, I fell pregnant in May and this project took a bit of a back seat. I created a block a month, in colours of the rainbow, each with a different embroidery, based on the events within a month, surrounded by a border of the name of the month in a variety of languages (I was a language student at university). I added a few t...

A quilt by Linda and other bits and bobs

This week Linda, my mother-in-law finished a quilt. It's for a friend's 70th birthday. Linda pieced it, and I quilted and bound it. In other news I've used the luxury of space to lay out another quilt. This is one made from blocks made by my Bee Mates in Stash Bee back in 2012. I have been meaning to finish this up for a while, but couldn't face trimming all the blocks. Finally I completed that step last night. I need to keep up the momentum and piece it together now. This will be for my Great Aunt, who I will be seeing in late June, so that's my aim. I also used the same space to lay out and take a look at my Dear Jane blocks (minus the 9 already in the process of being quilted) And my sampler blocks from Architextures and Botanics - these blocks are from a variety of sources, but so far mostly from the Farmer's Wife Sampler. I also trimmed up my Thread Along quilt ready for my attempt at a matched binding. In the end I did very simple quilt...

Finish Along [Quarter 2] - ever so slightly stupid...

So, once a baby hits six weeks old, everything clicks - routine, sleep, feeding.... right? And I get time to sew, right? Hey - can you see that pig flying pas the window? I know that the reality will be snatched sewing moments here and there, even if it's only just five minutes while Daddy changes the nappy. But that isn't going to stop me putting together a really stupidly long Finish Along list - I just never know what will take my fancy. Arabella Hexagon Quilt: I started this just last week - you can see why in this post here - and needs to be gifted in mid-May, so I need to get this basted, quilted and bound. Arabella Hexagon Quilt II: In boy colours. Apparently black and white are some of the first colours a baby sees so really this could be for a boy or a girl but is definitely more boy-ish Mini Swoon Quilt: I started making 6" Swoon blocks before Christmas - I've made three and want to make 9 in total, but all the fabric is cut. Neon Stained: I hav...
