Sneaking under the wire I have a final finish to share with you today! Do you remember Steph's quilt - the one I wasn't enjoying (well - one of the two I wasn't enjoying) and which kept appearing on my list at the start of each quarter? Yesterday I finished it!!!
This is a 21st birthday present for my sister-in-law. She will be 23 in October. All of the fabrics are batiks and were bought at the Harrogate quilt show just a month before her 21st birthday, so there was never any way it was going to be finished on time! Except for the sashing fabric, which might even be a Moda batik, but I'm not sure. As always I overbought by about half a meter of each fabric....
By the end of last quarter I had finished piecing the quilt top, and Mum had helped me baste it. It took me another few weeks to get round to quilting it. I even trimmed it. And then it sat on top of the pile, being ignored. I had planned to add another border to the quilt top made up of all of the different batiks, but I was fed up of adding border and the quilt was quite large already so I decided then to do a scrappy binding instead. And because of that decision I just couldn't find the energy to make the binding.
Yesterday I took it to my Local Quilt Shop where they have a fantastic new sewing studio with lots of space, and made myself do the binding. Of course, once I got on with it it only took me three hours. The finished quilt is 84" x 84" and the pattern is from the Moda Bake Shop.
So... what about the other things on my list. You may remember that the list back in April was not short, so inevitably, not all of it got finished, but I am really pleased with what I did manage to get done!
Steph's quilt wasn't the only quilt to be appearing on the list for the fourth time... so was Daniela's. I always associated these quilts with each other because progress on both was the same and I wasn't enjoying either of them. So it is only right that in the same quarter I finished Steph's quilt, I also finished Daniela's mammoth 116" x 116" quilt, and I really like it now it's finished!
When the quarter started I had barely done anything for Debs's quilt - I had sewn about ten seams and was still waiting for the background fabric to arrive. This was my big challenge for the quarter. It had to be finished so Dad could take it to Ireland this weekend. And it was! I even stitched a label for it (which I forgot to photograph)! Not wanting to break the habit of large quilts, this one is 106" x 106".
The cushion I made for the Modern She Made Swap was completed on time! I loved this, and I would love to make a whole quilt like this in the future. For me.
Anna's and Tom's place mats were finished.
Stepping stones was finished!
Ellie-Jo's plus quilt was finished!
Bubbles was finished (my first attempt at pebble quilting) !
And now it goes downhill.....The strings and things quilt fell off the edge. There was just no way I was going to meet my deadline of the end of May for a finished quilt top. I have to confess I haven't even touched it this quarter...
....Rhubarb and Custard has moved forward a little bit (and will reappear next quarter)...
...I haven't touched Three Peaks - partly because I don't know what I'm going to do with it once it's finished - there's no incentive....
....Neon Stained is untouched. This is because I've finally decided how to quilt it. I want to do a different free motion pattern in each square. This quilt is for me, so if it all goes bad it won't matter and it will be excellent practice for me. I just need the time to do it...
...Hexie Table Runner. I was totally prepared to write "I haven't touched this" but when I was thinking last night, I realised that I have. I spent an afternoon removing all of the papers. I've been struggling with how I'm going to quilt this, but I may have had a brainwave last night. I would like to get this finished by the end of July which would mark a year since I started it....
.....Rock and Romance - I really haven't touched this!....
....And Poetica Wedding Ring. This project has progressed but is nowhere near finished. But I think I will put it on the list again
So, out of 15 projects on the original list, I have finished 8. I am happy with that!
I did have one other aim for the quarter, not eligible for prizes or anything, and that was to get back on track with all of my Block of the \month projects. Well, I am up to date on my own BOM, still a little bit behind on Lucky Stars, a bit more behind on the Skill Builder, and I haven't touched the Sisters BOM from Gen X. But I did start the Tula Pink City Sampler Along. And I'm behind on it.... can't have everything!
