March [in review]

The first three months of this year have just flown by - when we first set Easter as our date for moving, it seemed ages away, and now it's just two days away. We've spent every Saturday of 2015 (with just two exceptions to celebrate birthdays) sorting and packing, and some Sundays and evenings as well and if everything works out, in just 1 month we will have the initial work on the new house finished and living room, dining room, kitchen, bathroom and two bedrooms set up and ready to be lived in. I. Cannot. Wait.

Because all of this packing has eaten into my sewing time. I'm really glad that I had a few mini quilts in the works as these have been so good for me - a little bit of sewing here and there and suddenly it's a finish, with all the satisfaction and sense of achievement that brings!

I picked up an old WIP/UFO and did a few stitches!
So how was March? Well I've spent a fair amount of time on the nursery hoops and enjoyed a couple of quick finishes (I have to confess that they don't all have felt on the back yet... not my favourite part of the process).

And I have a few minis that I finished too: a mini version of Patchwork City - this sits on my desk at work and every time I see it I would love to make a full quilt of this size block - I'm a little bit mad!

I finally finished the wood grain mini for Michael's cousin and her husband.

I finally finished my Wild Flowers EPP quilt.

I finished the UK Mini Swap quilt (here's a sneak peak)

I finally finished the Sashiko zippy pouch I've been working on for ages.

I finally made the earring organizer I've been planning in my head or years (are you seeing the theme)

And I finished the Preppy The Whale Baby quilt.

I also started a cushion for Mia

And kept up on track with the Moccasin BOM.

Moving is so tiring (both mentally and physically) I can't believe how much you got done in March despite spending so much time working on the move! Congrats and good luck with the big day!

It still amazes me how much you accomplish! Reading this Saturday morning so thinking of you moving and hoping that it is not raining. We are back in Taunton (Sidmouth on Friday) and it is another grey day! xx

Sweet Serenade Pincushions

This week has been about preparation, rather than sewing. I'm still hoping to meet my deadline of a full sized quilt by mid July - it's for friends that we don't see often - by which I mean, once a year, and that once a year is coming up quickly. I'm using Sweet Serenade by Basic Grey for Moda, which was released a few years ago now. I confess when I first bought it, I didn't have a plan for it, I just knew I liked it. But I also knew that it wasn't really my normal fabric choice. It was fabric I would enjoy sewing with, but perhaps not the end result so much. Then I realised it's colour scheme was perfect for these friends. I've spent this week cutting out all the pieces for the remaining 20 blocks. And by Thursday night when I finished I was feeling like I hadn't achieved much. Obviously I had and when I started piecing the blocks, they went together beautifully quickly. Meet Mia

***warning - lots of photos*** It is the first of March and therefore time for a review of what I achieved in February. There was some sewing for the first 23 days - I finished the quilt for Baby I made progress on the quilt for a friend's Baby and I finished my Thread Along Quilt  top I made some Dear Jane blocks (you can see them here , here and here ) and some Farmer's Wife Blocks And then on 24th February I went into labour and 12 hours later at 11.26pm we welcomed Amelia Lily to the world. Mia for short, weighed 9lbs 1 oz (4110g). We came home on Thursday after a few days in hospital and now we are juggling feeds, nappies and sleeps. Three hours old I love how suspicious she looks in this picture... We had a very handmade home coming with a knitted cardi and blankie from Grandma - my name was mud as the blanket was over 230 rows each with over 230 stitches plus a border....
