Bucket List

A six-day-old baby in the house means no sewing time - I have basted a few hexies.... in the quiet moments. This was a photo from yesterday with a very besotted Granny - I love this photo.


But I have had a lot of thinking time whilst feeding. Yesterday Stacey at the Tilted Quilt posted about her Quilty Bucket List and that got me thinking... so what would I love to make/finish (obviously long term given recent developments).

The Tilted Quilt
Double Wedding Ring Quilt: When I was little I remember my Gran making a double wedding ring quilt (by hand) and ever since this quilt has been in the back of my mind. Last year my local quilt shop offered a cutting service for this pattern, and I leapt at the chance. I'm using Poetica from Art Gallery and haven't made much recent progress but one day this quilt will go on my bed.

Dear Jane: I love sampler quilts and this is the Mummy of all sampler quilts. This is another project I have already started and will be a very long term labour of love - I do a few blocks and then leave it for a few months, but one day I will have my very own Rainbow Jane.

Toes in the Sand and Parkbench: these are two quilts I've come across in the last year from Jaybird quilts and I've finally ordered the patterns. I haven't planned fabric or timing yet, but one day....

Vignette in Stitches: this was the quilt which got me into blogging and the online quilt community. I haven't got very far  but I still love the pattern and the fabrics I picked.

Tail Feathers: This was one of the earliest quilts I fell in love with - it combines piecing, applique and embroidery and I have the pattern and the fabric ready to go...

Quilt made with Botanics/Architextures: another started project and another long term one.... I'm making 6" blocks from a variety of sources until I get bored or end up with a quilt that's too big to work with.

Patchwork of the Crosses: this is a pattern I've come across only this year, but I have fallen in love. I really enjoy the and piecing of EPP, and the history of this quilt is from Cambridgeshire, just an hour away from where I grew up. The fabric is cut and ready to play with.

A hexie quilt: the idea is that this would be a scrap project using the tiniest scraps - 1/2" hexies in a rainbow. I've started basting but this is a very long term project....

Something that strikes me about this list is the fact that if I want to do something, I tend to start it. The above list is not far off of a WIP list (with a couple of exceptions). So what's on your bucket list?

Fabulous list! I think you and I are possibly quilty twins - I am right in the middle of my DWR, I love Botanics/Architextures and I am dreaming of a Dear Jane :) With a 6 day old baby, I'm simply impressed that you can even type at this point. Thanks so much for linking up!

Lovely picture of Mia and Granny! Quite a list Jennie but as you say, most of it's started and for me that's the tricky bit, making a decision! xx

Such a great list! I'm afraid to make mine because I think I'll just be overwhelmed, but Green Tea & Sweet Beans definitely features on it! Such a cute pic of baby and Nan. Hope you're managing some sleep at nights x

that's a great list. I have a rainbow Dear Jane on mine too. The only one I wouldn't want to do is the EPP one as me and EPP aren't friends.

I completely understand having a new baby in the house. It totally changes the ball game. Mine is now a little over a year, so I am starting to get more sewing time. Double wedding ring is definitely on my list too.

365 Quilt Challenge 2016 [A finish]

I can't believe I've just typed that heading! When I made the block for January 1st 2016 I could not have imagined the journey this quilt would have taken me on. Hidden Agenda [A Finish]

This is very possibly my favourite ever finish - I know I've said that in the past, but this one is going to be hard to beat. This time last year, I attended a day long lecture/workshop with Tula Pink and it was inspiring. Having not really loved her fabrics in the past (but loved her patterns), I suddenly saw them in a new light, linked with my 2018 new year's resolution to try more fussy cutting). Fast forward 8 months and I confess that my Tula stash has expanded quite a lot. I found some UK shops with older ranges of fabric, splurged on a few destashes and found the odd piece of her fabric already in my stash. The plan was always (and remains) to make a Smitten quilt, but I'm well aware that I have plenty of fabric to make other projects as well! So when I saw the Hidden Agenda quilt pattern by Angela Pingle, this fabric sprung instantly to mind.... and we all know I love a rainbow! And what could be better than rainbowfied Tula? February Embroidery Along [A Finish]

I've really been enjoying my embroidery this year, after not doing very much last year. One of the challenges I set myself at the start of the year was to learn to colour tint my fabric before adding the embroidery - I love buying the pre-printed panels, but I'd like to do this myself as well. And the opportunity to learn this arose in February. Meg Hawkey of Crab Apple Hill Studio hosted a stitchalong to celebrate National Embroidery Month, and the first step was colour your fabric. I bought the pencils she advises,  the blending stumps, something called fabric extender and the pigma pen. And I gave it a go. My first attempt ended badly. Because the one thing I didn't buy was a new, clean paintbrush. So when I came to add the fabric extended, it went all bleary and muddy as, despite cleaning the paintbrush thoroughly, it obviously wasn't clean enough.
