Finish Along [Q4 plans]

I scared myself the other day. My WIP list hit 100 for the first time ever. My brain is exploding with all the things going on, so it's time to do a little bit of pruning.  I'm going to try and knock off some of those smaller projects which have been languishing too long - I'm going to make the decisions or buy the minimal supplies that have been stopping me from finishing them. There are some things which should have been finished last quarter but I just missed out on. There's some Christmas sewing. And there are 'just' three big quilts. I will definitely be joining the #ridiculouslylongfallistgang again.

First up are the three big quilts: The most important is Mia's big girl quilt. We haven't made great progress on painting her new room, but she will definitely be in it by Christmas, and a big-girl bed needs a big-girl quilt! I can't even remember how many blocks I've made. I just know I've quite a few left to go.

I have five of these 18" log cabins and need seven more, quilted and bound by the start of December.

And this monster. I really don't want to play with this anymore. It needs to be unquilted, and I was doing it while watching Bake Off but fell of the waggon at the half-way point. I'm putting it on again because its Christmassy and if it doesn't get finished this quarter it will be at least another year I reckon.

I started a new EPP project last week. I don't really have a plan, but I now have quite a few EPP projects without a real aim or plan, so the hexy blob, which is larger now than when I shared it on instagram a few weeks ago, needs to be finished as something,

The black, red and white trapies need to be something.

And these little half-hexies which I started on a whim, need to become something.

Some Christmas presents... these piles of fabric will be R2D2 (on the left) and Darth Vader (on the right). Obviously.

And these will be cushions for my niece and eldest daughter with some geometric foundation pieced letter and pockets for books.

I prepared two embroideries to go in hoops for Jessica's nursery wall - balloons on the left and bathtime on the right.

These two embroideries have been finished a while, but I need to mount them in the hoops. These should have been a finish last quarter but I realised at the last minute that I didn't actually have any 6" hoops. I have now bought those hoops.

Still on the theme of embroidery is the Bee-utiful mini quilt. I made really good progress on this last quarter but didn't quite get it across the finish line. Two more blocks to embroider, and three sets of borders to piece. Some narrow sashing and minimal quilting and this will be done too.

And then there's the alphabet embroidery... I think there's more progress here than the last time I shared it.

Baby quilts: I will imminently become an Aunty again, and these are the fabrics for an equilateral triangle quilt. Sadly I'm not feeling too inspired by this project at the moment. But it needs to be finished by the end of November. No doubt I will leave it to the last minute.

And another baby due in January needs a quilt: I've started a half-sized Moda Building Blocks quilt.

And another: a lovely pile of Alison Glass low volume, plus a lovely pile of rainbow yumminess could result in a quilt that's hard to give away!

And another: I need a few more of these block to make a quilt: it's all cut. Now for some chain piecing.

And another: It's Inside Addition again... but I now have a purpose for it.

Now for some starts that just need to be finished: I made this improv "Goodnight" back in July. Much as I enjoyed the process, the chances of me making anymore is slim. So let's just get it finished. I think Jess might like this one.

I have an oversized Dresden from the Moccasin BOM quilt: it might be a mini, or it might be a hoop. It definitely needs to be finished.

I have a cushion that just needs a zipped back making. I've even found fabric in my stash to make it and bought the zip. This will only take half an hour. Why haven't I done it already?

I have an undersized block leftover from the Jane Austen quilt. I'd like to add some borders, get it quilted and make it into a cushion to go with the quilt. And this block, which will become a dolly quilt for Mia. I think I need to add some more of the pink top and bottom.

I decided that I don't love the Marcelle Medallion quilt I started in January 2015. I made the centre and like it, but I don't love it. I need to do something with it. I just haven't decided what yet.

And to go with the Pineapple quilt I finished last quarter, I want to finish watermelon and strawberry this quarter. It's all cut and ready!

I've started a little Christmas sampler quilt which I also need to get finished this quarter, otherwise it will be another year in the making. I might even make more than one...

Two more quilts that need to be finished by the beginning of December: a yellow and green quilt...

And a blue and green quilt...

And then there's this. Which I currently hate. My only hope for this is that by the end of the quarter I at least know where I'm going with it. It doesn't help that the one petal I've sewn on well is sewn on the wrong way....

I'm also going to add on the My Small World quilt. It's due to hang in Mia's room and would be nice if it were done soon after she moves in... this is quite unrealistic as I'm still a long way from finishing the hand quilting!

Holy moly that list got long quickly, didn't it. I count 33... if I get through all of those (ha ha ha) I'll have cut my WIP list by a third. Which means I could start the new year with some new starts??? It's quite the list and Archie the Wonder Dog asked me on Instagram whether I would be planning interim deadlines, or leaving it all to the last minute. My automatic response was "leave it to the last minute" but maybe I should do a bit more planning!

365 Quilt Challenge 2016 [A finish]

I can't believe I've just typed that heading! When I made the block for January 1st 2016 I could not have imagined the journey this quilt would have taken me on. So make yourselves comfortable and grab a cup of tea, because this blog post may get lengthy! I'd seen the 365 Quilt Challenge on Facebook. I think every quilter on Facebook must have been aware of it. Loads of my friends had signed up and it kept popping up as a "Page you might like" thing. In the end, in November 2015, I joined the group, had a poke round. Decided it wasn't for me. One of the things that really put me off were the fabric requirements: you needed x amount of dark dark fabric, x amount of medium dark fabric, x amount of dark medium, medium, light medium, light, background.... I just couldn't get my head round those requirements. I'd looked at the mock ups on the wesbite and couldn't bring myself to pick a colour. I put it to the back of my mind. But I had obvious

Hidden Agenda [A Finish]

This is very possibly my favourite ever finish - I know I've said that in the past, but this one is going to be hard to beat. This time last year, I attended a day long lecture/workshop with Tula Pink and it was inspiring. Having not really loved her fabrics in the past (but loved her patterns), I suddenly saw them in a new light, linked with my 2018 new year's resolution to try more fussy cutting). Fast forward 8 months and I confess that my Tula stash has expanded quite a lot. I found some UK shops with older ranges of fabric, splurged on a few destashes and found the odd piece of her fabric already in my stash. The plan was always (and remains) to make a Smitten quilt, but I'm well aware that I have plenty of fabric to make other projects as well! So when I saw the Hidden Agenda quilt pattern by Angela Pingle, this fabric sprung instantly to mind.... and we all know I love a rainbow! And what could be better than rainbowfied Tula? I was ably assisted by my friend Ti

February Embroidery Along [A Finish]

I've really been enjoying my embroidery this year, after not doing very much last year. One of the challenges I set myself at the start of the year was to learn to colour tint my fabric before adding the embroidery - I love buying the pre-printed panels, but I'd like to do this myself as well. And the opportunity to learn this arose in February. Meg Hawkey of Crab Apple Hill Studio hosted a stitchalong to celebrate National Embroidery Month, and the first step was colour your fabric. I bought the pencils she advises,  the blending stumps, something called fabric extender and the pigma pen. And I gave it a go. My first attempt ended badly. Because the one thing I didn't buy was a new, clean paintbrush. So when I came to add the fabric extended, it went all bleary and muddy as, despite cleaning the paintbrush thoroughly, it obviously wasn't clean enough. It was unsalvageable so I started again, and I was so much happier with the results. The practice piece was, in
