May Day

Nothing says 1st May like Morris Dancers!

1st of May is the start of the dancing season. I have a calendar on my desk at work full of photographs - Michael gave it to me for Christmas, and this weeks picture is morris dancers. My colleagues wanted to know why, so I explained it's in the family (you can't quite see my Dad in this photo) - the same colleague bought a spinning wheel from us two weeks ago so he then announced that my family was "cool". Funny - my family has never been called "cool" before! Eccentric - yes, cool - not really. :)

My April completions
April feels like a fairly unproductive month. I haven't really finished a lot! Or that's how it feels.

Farmer's Wife: I bought some more batiks, including the gorgeous turquoise in the Spider Web Block. I have 81 blocks complete now, and I really want to push on with this project. I've seen some finished ones popping up and some gorgeous quilting, like this one.

Stained QAL: I signed up for this QAL months ago, and finally at Easter had the time to do all the cutting. It went together really quickly after that and I love how bright it is. In May I need to add a chunky black border and quilt it - I'm going for organic straight lines (read "wavy").

Cushions: I've completed three cushion covers this month: A nice red one with half square triangles using up the leftovers from my Swoon and some dense straight-line quilting; a rainbow Swoon variation for my first ever Swap; and an Owl applique. And with the leftovers from my mini Swoons I made alittle mug rug in blues and browns.

And I stitched a lot of blocks: for my first ever month in a Bee, for the Siblings Together charity, and for my Amelia quilt.

Yesterday I got a parcel in the mail from America. It was my swap goodies. Look what I got:


Swap Goodies
A pincushion ( love the ladybird), a small pouch, a pen holder, applique needles, beautifully fine pins, and my favourite colour sewing thread. So, Dara, I don't have any contact details for you, but thank you so much - I love love love my goodies! If you read this, please get in touch so I can thank you personally.

And I won $25 voucher for the Fat Quarter Shop for my Chevron cushion which I entered in the Festival of Half Square Triangles over at Canoe Rudge Creations. Hmm.... what to buy!

For May I want to finish the Amelia quilt, and quilt some of the quilt tops that I've finished piecing, so hopefully I'll have lots more to share in the next few weeks.

I love your little owl cushion! The applique looks amazing. I also made an owl cushion last month, but mine is embroidered. :)

Congratulations on a productive April, the batik in the Spider's Web block is lovely. If you are anything like me the FQ Shop will be so tempting, the gift voucher will just about cover the postage!

365 Quilt Challenge 2016 [A finish]

I can't believe I've just typed that heading! When I made the block for January 1st 2016 I could not have imagined the journey this quilt would have taken me on. Tula Nova [A Finish]

I can't believe it's been nearly two years since an epic day out in Huddersfield with the amazing Tula Pink. That day at Simply Solids was pretty close to the best day ever: a morning lecture by Tula where we got to see some of her quilts - and the amazing quilting by Angela Walters - and then an afternoon workshop with her starting work on the Tula Nova pattern. The centre that I made that day became a cushion, but I redid my centre and kept going with a rainbow or stars around it to create my final Tula Nova. All of the print fabrics are Tula All Stars with Pompoms and Stripes. The solids are all Kona. This was my first real time working with Tula Pink fabrics. I'd long been a fan of her patterns, but not her fabric. After this day I was a convert. We won't discuss how much Tula fabric I now have, nor how many of my current WIPs are Tula WIPs! All the Little Finishes

 I've had a few recent finishes - mostly smaller pieces and mostly not on my list to finish this year (because I've only just started them!) - lots and lots of pouches! Here's a round up... Three pouches I made for the kids for our holiday - all are the Seamingly Sane Pouch pattern, but I used the pattern add-on to adjust the sizes and customised with some straps and in one case, a pocket. These three pouches are made for our work Yubikeys when we travel to protect them - it's a slightly adjusted Aneela Hooey pattern - the peas are an inside joke! I knew I had pea fabric for a reason! A couple more Seamingly Sane pouches - the smaller one was a birthday present for my Dad, and the floral one was for me to protect my diary when I travel. Seven pouches made entirely from my scraps to hold EPP pieces pre sewing! This is the Peekapouch pattern by Sweet Cinnamon Roses. This is the Not So Little Zippy Pouch by Fabric and Flowers.
