I've made a start! I got the book last Christmas and for the last year I've been trying to decide on a colour scheme. I thought about a rainbow (there is still scope for me to change my mind to this one) and I though about red and white, and red and black and white, and green.
After my green Farmer's Wife Baby Quilt, I chose the green option. I'm using every and all different greens (though staying away from very bluey greens) - I have plenty in my stash and I'm trying not to repeat fabrics - and using Kona Snow for the background.
I started at the beginning with block A-1 Pinwheels Gone Awry. Foundation pieced. Pretty straight forward.
I then intended to do block A-2. I read a few tutorials ahead and found block A-3 Hunter's Moon, and had a mild panic attack. Applique already. And instructions I didn't understand. Could my DJ be over at block number 3? So I tackled it as soon as I got in from work yesterday.
I am so chuffed with this! By following the instructions with the fabric in front of me it all made sense. My applique isn't bad, the freezer paper techniques worked. my seams mostly line up and the finished block is the right size. And I love the fabric. SUCCESS!
And I didn't share my December block for Stash Bee with you! Owls....
Instead of embroidering the details by hand I had a play with some of the many stitches on my machine: you can't see it very well, but I did some curvy stitches on her tummy to represent feathers, and used a heavy straight stitch to give her eyelashes. And a little circle stitch for the centre of the flower.
We're going to see The Hobbit this evening, so no sewing for me.
