The guys over at American Patchwork and Quilting have just launched the 2017 UFO challenge. This isn't the first year it's been run, but it's the first time I've been aware of it. At the start of the year you list out 12 lingering projects that you want to finish in no particular order, and then each month, a number is announced. Whichever quilt is listed against that number is the project you focus on for the month. Now you know me... I have plenty more than 12 projects hanging about. But this sounds like a great way to pick up the long-forgotten, unloved projects. So here is my list.
1.Gravity Quilt
2. Double Wedding Ring Quilt
3. Skill Builder Quilt
4. Aspen Glow
5. Lucky Stars
6. My Small World
7. Architextures and Botanics Sampler Quilt
8. Uncle Terry's Quilt
9.Vignette
10.Zodiac Block of the Month
11. Summer Sampler
12. Twit Twoo.
It's a mixture of the really old, and the not so old. Some are projects I only started in 2016, some are projects that I started before we moved house (over 18 months ago). And Vignette is my older WIP.
I'm under no illusion! A month's worth of work, even if I were to spend every waking hour on some of these projects, will not be enough to complete them. I'm thinking of Vignette again. But a little attention for a few hours in a month will certainly show them some love. There's always the possibility: maybe I will finish some of these projects, perhaps not in the designated month, but I'll fall back in love with them so much that I continue to work on them even when the month is over. And even if that isn't the case, they will be a few hours nearer completion.
Project #6 is up for January: My Small World. It's a "this-house" project - I started it in June 2015. I finished piecing it in February 2016. And I'm hand quilting it.
I finished quilting a cross hatch in the sky and I love, love, love the texture. But the rest of thequilt is slow going, and I haven't had it down from the shelf in a while. The last time I shared any progress on Instagram was 8th July, 2016.
I've decided to bind it before I continue quilting. I'm hoping this will make it easier to handle. And it was fun picking out the binding in the boxing day sales!
Pop back at the end of the month to see if I made any progress at all!
