Back in November I made a new Christmas Cushion using a mini charm pack of Joy. I had intended to put it away until Christmas, but Mia took one look at it and it was "her new cushion". November is just about ok for Christmassy things, in exceptional cases. January is not. So as her cousins were both getting cushions for Christmas I decided I would make her a less seasonal version of the cushion she seemed to love so much. She picked out a blue flower print from Lizzy House all by herself. Luckily the piece I had bough on a destash was plenty big enough to back a cushion as well as the other plans I already had for it.
In the past, as I said, I've made these cushions from mini charm packs, but this time I started with a single fabric and pulled from my stash for the rest. Most of the fabrics fell together very easily, but that lime green was a bit of a risk. I had to leave the pieced front over night to check I still liked it in the morning. I'm so pleased now that I included it!
"Twinkle, twinkle little star" is one of the first nursery rhymes we could identify Mia singing, and she really is (mostly) my little star, so it was perfect. A little bit of googling to perfect my cursive writing and I'm pretty happy with the embroidery. I added a little hand quilting to finish it off.
The cushion finishes at 20" x 16" and I have been allowed to put the Christmas version away! This is a Finish Along finish, though it bears very little resemblance to the initial fabric pull I shared! You can find my original list here.
