APQ Resolution [May]

I have to confess that it has been a while since the project listed for May has been out of the cupboard. I did a quick search on my blog, and the last time it got a mention was December 2014, when I announced my plan to finish it in 2015! And then in July 2013, when I added it to a Finish Along list. In fact the last time I can see any evidence that I worked on it is April 2013... Well, today I got my Double Wedding Ring quilt out of the cupboard and took some new photos of it. A couple of pieces of good news: I still absolutely love it; and all the pieces are cut! The bad news: I'm not even half way through piecing it! And there are Y-seams every two inches. And where there aren't Y-seams, there are curves! The colours are still beautiful: the fabrics are Poetica from Art Gallery with Floral Elements as the background. The whole thing was dye-cut as a class at my local quilt shop. So it's cut, it's accurate and there are little nicks for lining up the curves...

2015: Best laid plans!

There are so many things I want to sew along with next year, and so many quilts I've seen in 2014 that I want to make in 2015... I need to manage these projects so I'm using as much stash fabric as possible #sewmystash2015 and keep the cost down... these projects need to budget friendly... just as well I got s fabulous bundle of fat quarters for Christmas! Technicolour Galaxy  - the new BOM from Pile O Fabric - I am so excited about this quilt - lots of more advanced techniques, quilt as you go and rainbows. What more could I want?! Of course I followed along with her 2013 Skill Builder BOM. Well - I started following along. Another dream for this year is to finish the 2013 quilt. I have some blocks pieced and quilted, some blocks pieced and not quilted and some blocks not started. I'm going to need to buy some solids (quite carefully) but I'm hoping to use a lot of stash fabric. Moccassin BOM - this is the new BOM from Gen X Quilters and her third. I started h...

Finish Along [quarter 3 goals]

Well - I'd better put some plans down before the end of the week. What would I like to achieve between now and the end of September? The answer to that question is very different to the answer of the question "what could I actually achieve between now and the end of September?" In the spirit of quarter 2, which was quite successful, I'm simply going to list everything, along with a couple of goals which won't eligible for prizes, but accountability is a good thing. I would love to finally finish my hexie table runner. This was my go to project on holiday in Sidmouth last year and it is nearly Sidmouth-time again - 20 days (not that I'm counting). I need to baste, quilt and bind. Easy. My Rhubarb and Custard Quilt didn't quite make it in quarter 2. Maybe this time round..... Neon Stained: I now plan to quilt each square individually with a different free motion design (within reason) - that does mean this will not be a quick finish, but it wi...

WIP Wednesday [bitty week]

Since last Wednesday I posted my goals for the 2nd Quarter Finish Along - you can peruse them here - totally unrealistic and incredibly over optimistic! But I made a good start - I've played with five of them in the last week: Daniela's quilt is quilted - all 116" x 116". Now I need to bring myself to do the binding. I think it will be done by machine, not hand! I played with my Double Wedding Ring Quilt - 7 blocks done. 23 to go. I finished piecing my cushion cover for the Modern She Made Swap and order more fabric for binding (which arrived today). If my partner doesn't like it I'm fine to keep it! I did some of the hand stitching on my Rhubarb and Custard quilt at Craft Club last night. And tonight I mad a second star for the place mats. Not a bad week really! I anyone else noticing a theme in the colours I'm choosing at the moment? Linking up with WIP Wednesday!

Two days, two starts...

Have you noticed I have a bit of a thing for Art Gallery fabrics recently. They are just SO pretty. In the last two days I have started two new projects, both with Art Gallery. Fireworks This is a new(ish) pattern from Camille Roskelly (who also designed Swoon) and as soon as I saw it I knew I wanted to make my own version. I was just waiting for the perfect fabric. In the end I was a close decision between Luxe in Bloom or Rock and Romance (both Art Gallery), and I went for Rock and Romance - the combination of purple, peach and grey is just so unusual, yet so pretty. I made the first of sixteen blocks last night. The background is Art Gallery Pure Elements in ash. Double Wedding Ring I can remember when my Grandparents lived at Datchworth, my Granny was making a double wedding ring quilt. They moved when I was 12, so this was at least 15 years ago I would say. She used templates, and cut all the fabrics by hand and hand pieced a whole quilt. It was beautiful - ve...
