I know I say this every time it comes to putting together a quilt with sashing, but I really do detest this part of the quilt-making process. The problem is I love how the finished quilt looks, especially if I'm making a sampler quilt. Every time I do the sashing of a quilt I tell myself that next time I need to press each seam as I go along, as second only to stitching (and pinning) the sashing, comes pressing the sashing. And every time I leave the pressing to the end.
But I can confirm that I am, for the moment, fully sashed. I've been working on getting my Siblings Together Bee quilt together now that I have all the blocks. And what gorgeous blocks the girls made for me! This is such a bright and happy quilt. The original plan was to put it together without sashing, but it made my eyes hurt! I picked up a white on white spot, which I came to regret as I had to look at each piece of fabric three or four times to make sure I was sewing it right sides together!
The finished quilt top is 62" x 76". The blocks are Love in the Mist (tutorial here) and finish at 12" with 2" sashing and a 4" border. I've bought a black-with-white-stars print for the back and black and white stripes for the binding. This will be the first quilt that I fmq on my new sewing machine, so I'm looking forward to having a go - I hope it isn't too different to my old machine...
Linking up with WIP Wednesday

This was the best photo my quilt wranglers managed to get - it's a little breezy on the north-east coast tonight! |
